HELSINKI, Finland: Planmeca continues to invest heavily in modernising its in-house production in Helsinki. A newly inaugurated machining centre, modernised painting line and new production line have increased the company’s capacity for the production of new products.
The new machining centre was inaugurated on 10 December. It features a pallet system, guarantees uninterrupted operations and increases the capacity of the machining department. The new centre also allows for the future use of robotics, which will enable the automation of certain functions. This centre follows recent investments in turning centres made in 2023 and 2019, and its inauguration marks another step in the modernisation of Planmeca’s machining facilities.
Jani Pulkkinen, sales director for Wihuri, stated: “We have been honoured to be Planmeca’s main partner as a machine tool supplier for several decades. The high-quality horizontal machining centre Mazak HCN-6800 NEO with an attached pallet system increases Planmeca’s productivity in machinery. Wihuri and Mazak thank Planmeca for a long-term partnership and wish good luck for the new investment.”
Through investments in the painting line, Planmeca has successfully minimised service interruptions, improved painting quality and boosted sustainability. A newly installed ultrasonic sieve for handling paint powder has facilitated its recycling and also significantly reduced powder usage.
Further investments include the acquisition of a reverse osmosis device for the washing process of the painting line and purchases of new and updated automatic paint guns, which also improve operational efficiency and powder utilisation.
Planmeca makes a €100,000 donation to the Finnish Dental Association that will allow it to further its work into promoting oral health across the country.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Finnish Dental Association in 2024, Planmeca and Plandent Division made a joint donation of €100,000 to the organisation. The funds will be channelled towards educating dental professionals on ergonomics and improving occupational well-being in the dental industry.
The Finnish Dental Association has been promoting and supervising the professional, economic and societal interests of dental professionals in Finland since 6 December 1924. The association works towards improving oral healthcare and the treatment of dental and oral pathology. It advances ethical values in the industry and promotes dialogue between industry organisations and professionals on current topics.
Heikki Kyöstilä, founder and president of Planmeca Group commented, “Since the founding of the organisation in 1924, the Finnish Dental Association has been nothing short of instrumental in advancing oral health and care in Finland. It is a great honour to stand side by side with this eminent profession and do our part in supporting the important work done by the association to educate dental professionals and drive dentistry forward.”
Henna Virtomaa, executive director at the Finnish Dental Association, said: “Our key mission at the Finnish Dental Association is to help dentists succeed throughout their career through expert advice and support. Occupational well-being in the dental industry is one of the key issues in our recently updated strategy for the years 2025–2029. We are grateful for this significant contribution.”
