HELSINKI, Finland: Finnish dental manufacturer Planmeca has announced the release of Romexis 7, the latest version of its all-in-one dental software. First debuted at the International Dental Show in March, Romexis 7 is now available for purchase and includes built-in artificial intelligence (AI) features designed to streamline clinical workflows and reduce routine work.
The initial release of Romexis 7 introduces AI-powered 3D imaging tools, including automatic recognition and segmentation of anatomical structures such as individual teeth and the mandibular nerve in CBCT scans. The software also automatically aligns CBCT images with intra-oral scans, improving case visualisation and patient communication.
Implant planning has been enhanced with an intelligent, fully automated workflow that generates implant proposals in just nine seconds. Users simply select the implant line, and the system identifies missing teeth, scales virtual crowns to fit, and places implants accordingly. The proposed plan can then be reviewed and adjusted as needed.
Surgical guide design has also been streamlined. The software automatically detects and defines the guide area, generating a modifiable outline. Additional AI-powered tools support tasks such as temporomandibular joint visualisation and 3D cephalometric analyses through automated landmark detection.
Romexis 7 includes a virtual assistant based on a language model, which supports users by answering questions about software functionality. Drawing from Romexis manuals and tutorial videos, the assistant provides step-by-step guidance and relevant video links.
“The AI-powered features in Romexis 7 have been developed entirely in-house, which allows us to focus on features that truly matter to Romexis users and respond quickly to user feedback and evolving clinical needs,” said Helianna Puhlin-Nurminen, vice president for digital imaging and software applications at Planmeca. “Initial user feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, showing that our AI effectively optimises daily work in dental clinics,” she added.
All AI functions run locally on the user’s workstation, ensuring patient data is not transmitted to cloud services. The only exception is the smart chat feature, which requires an internet connection and uses cloud services to deliver user guidance.
