MALMÖ, Sweden: TePe, the leading Swedish oral healthcare brand, has released its sustainability report for 2022. The report showcases TePe’s initiatives aimed at promoting long-term positive change for the well-being of individuals and the environment.
“We acknowledge the challenges the world is facing and are committed to taking action through continuous efforts to stimulate good health and well-being, promote circular practices, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” Julia Lönnegren, sustainability manager at TePe, said in a press release.
Highlights from the report
As part of continuous efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, TePe has been phasing out fossil raw materials from production and has launched bio-based products. Since 2022, the company has used either material from renewable sources or renewable mass-balanced materials (which save fossil raw materials by using sustainable raw materials in the value chain) certified according to ISCC System’s ISCC PLUS certification scheme for all its toothbrush and interdental brush handles.
Additionally, aiming for all of the materials used in all of its packaging for the products it produces to be renewable or recycled or certified by the Forest Stewardship Council by 2025, TePe has increasingly been incorporating sustainable materials into its packaging. According to the report, 74% of its product packaging was sustainable in 2022.
TePe strives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote a circular economy in its operations. To that end, the company conducts an annual life cycle assessment for purchased materials with regard to the products and packaging it produces. Additionally, TePe continues to use 100% renewable energy in production, supplemented by its own rooftop solar power plant, which it doubled in size in 2022.
The company places great emphasis on education and knowledge sharing with dental professionals and academics, offering digital webinars on health and sustainable innovation. TePe also endorses Eklund Foundation for Odontological Research and Education, supporting such research worldwide.
Finally, TePe engages in professional partnerships to promote sustainable development. For example, in 2022, TePe supported FDI World Dental Federation’s consensus statement on environmentally sustainable oral healthcare.
“Taking practical action and collaborating with others is crucial in our strategic efforts for long-term sustainable development,” concluded Lönnegren.
