KREMS AN DER DONAU, Austria: Danube Private University (DPU) offers postgraduate continuing education across several dental disciplines. Its Master of Science (Continuing Education)—MSc (CE)—programmes combine academic and clinical training with practical application. The next MSc (CE) in Orthodontics will begin on 23 November.

The programme, led by Prof. Dieter Müßig, rector of DPU and academic director of the programme, provides participants with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to deliver comprehensive orthodontic treatment. DPU’s international appeal is reflected in its diverse student community: postgraduate students from nearly 66 countries, including the US, South Africa, the UAE and New Zealand, have chosen the university for their advanced dental education.

“Alongside the orthodontic treatment of children and adolescents, which continues to be the main focus of the field, there is a broad range of treatment options for adult patients, including periodontal, functional, pre-prosthetic and aesthetic aspects. Transdisciplinary treatment techniques and approaches tailored to the specific needs of adult orthodontic care are taught in depth, with a strong emphasis on practical application,” Prof. Müßig explained. “This makes orthodontics a truly cross-generational treatment concept. Digital workflows in orthodontics, together with other innovative techniques, are seamlessly integrated throughout the state-of-the-art curriculum,” he added.

The MSc (CE) in Orthodontics spans six semesters and awards 120 ECTS credits. Courses are delivered in a hybrid format, enabling participants to complete the programme alongside their professional careers. In an era of rapid developments in medicine, technology and artificial intelligence, continuous professional education is key to long-term success. DPU’s programmes are designed to help dental professionals deepen their expertise and apply newly acquired knowledge in clinical practice.

In addition to the MSc (CE), DPU offers the university-level continuing education programme Academic Expert in Orthodontics, which comprises a two-year curriculum worth 80 ECTS credits. The programme provides a comprehensive introduction to orthodontic diagnosis, treatment concepts and clinical approaches and is intended for dentists seeking to expand their expertise in orthodontics. The Academic Expert in Orthodontics is also open to newly qualified dentists and can be started directly after completion of a dental degree, providing a seamless pathway into postgraduate specialisation. Upon successful completion, participants can progress into the third and final year of the MSc (CE) in Orthodontics, with their academic achievements fully recognised, and complete the master’s qualification with a total of 120 ECTS credits. The combined study pathway therefore enables participants to progress from foundational postgraduate education to advanced academic and clinical specialisation.
